Three words that describe me: Passionate. Easygoing. Humble.
If you told me five years ago that I’d become one of the most sought-after headshot photographers for actors in the DMV and Mid-Atlantic region, I would have laughed in your face—politely, of course. It was by accident and a stroke of luck, really, that I even ventured into professional photography. Today, talent is referred to me by more than 50 agents, acting coaches and other casting professionals in the market.
So how did I get here…
I never planned to be a professional photographer. I’m a public relations manager by day and absolutely love my career, even though I work some really long hours most weeks. A few years ago, I hired a photographer to take headshots for some of our executives. While they were absolutely amazing headshots, several of my executives didn’t like what they were wearing or their hair, or some other issue that was not the photographer’s fault. Given the tight budget, I knew I couldn’t pay for reshoots. So, I knew I was going to have to redo them myself.
I started studying great headshot photographers and their work and started learning everything I could about lighting and the technical side of photography. Most importantly, I practiced—a lot—on actor friends, business colleagues and anyone else who was willing to get in front of my cheap camera. It wasn’t long before I realized I had a real eye for photography and found a new passion specifically in people photography.
As an actor myself, I knew what was available in the region and what my experiences were with having my headshots taken. So, I saw a need for a new kind of actor’s headshot photographer and experience. That experience is a collection of best practices I’ve learned from some of the best celebrity headshot photographers in the business, as well as some bad experiences I’ve had firsthand as an actor.
My goal with every client is to capture YOU. I am a very easygoing and charismatic guy and have a natural ability to help people relax and have fun during their shoot.
I engage with you in a way that brings out your personality, but we also spend quite a bit of time capturing emotions that work with your specific acting goals. I enjoy engaging with people and getting to know what makes them tick, where their passions are and what story they want to tell through their images.
I’m always trying to get better, so I love the process of and welcome critical feedback.
While I am capable of shooting products, real estate and other types of photography, I’m most passionate about capturing people.
Outside of photography and my day job, I enjoy writing, performing and spending time with my partner and our two dogs.
